Sign the Petition to Protect Local Control on Transgender-Issue Policies in Schools!
Hanover County parents, residents and pastors spoke up, standing strong to protect every kid and safeguard the minds, hearts and bodies of our children. As a result, on Nov. 9, Hanover County School Board Members (HCSB) voted (4-3) against the most concerning portions of the Virginia Department of Education’s “Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students.” Specifically rejected were policy components jeopardizing safety and privacy rights by allowing biological males to use the female bathrooms, locker rooms, or sleeping quarters on overnight field trips. We thank God for this courageous decision by the HCSB on behalf of Hanover families and children!
Sadly, this issue continues to impact our community. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit against HCSB for its stance on this important issue. We are disturbed by the pressure from outside groups like the ACLU to force Hanover families to endure policies that do not reflect our communities or public school children's needs. Also, as it currently stands, legislation to remove the mandatory requirement that local school boards adopt the policies in full has failed in both the state Senate and the House.
STEP 1: Sign the Petition, by filling out the form on this page, as concerned Hanover citizens and parents, we are asking the Virginia Secretary of Education and State Superintendant to:
STEP 2: Share this petition with your friends and neighbors, and encourage them to show their support by signing it.
We are stronger when we speak together!
